How this volume relates to the Plan

The Plan is about the craft: how knowledge moves from a retiring master to a successor, and how the trade becomes worth entering. This volume is about the person at the wok. It asks what protection a hawker has against old age, illness, injury and a bad month – and how that compares with the employee, the low-wage worker, the platform rider and the freelancer working beside them in the same economy. It takes the plan's rules as given, carries them to stalls under private landlords (C.7), and adds one mechanism and three asks to it (C.9.2).

C.9.2 shows how they enter the plan. Follow the Plate puts numbers on C.7: it follows the money from diner to supplier and landlord and tests each proposal in an open model.

All figures SGD, 2026 rules unless stated. Every figure is from an official or published source opened on 25–27 October 2026 and checked again on 28 October 2026, listed at the end; "our arithmetic" marks derived figures. Where no data exists, this volume says so – that absence is one of its findings.
